On December 8, 1970 John Lennon was interviewed by Rolling Stone magazine (Jann Wenner) in support of his new album, "Plastic Ono Band" (released December 11th). Full of bold, "Beatle myth"-busting statements about their image ("The Beatles' tours were like Fellini's Satyricon"), their fans ("I resent performing for fucking idiots"), and their accomplishments ("I don't care about the whole conept of 'Pepper'") - as well as candid comments on drugs, Yoko and the cultural changes of the past decade, it's perhaps the most famous interview in rock history.
Exactly one decade later -- December 8, 1980 - John and Yoko were photgraphed in their apartment by Annie Leibovitz for Rolling Stone's feauture on their recently released album, "Double Fantasy". Just as the former LP -- and its companion interviews - saw John's stripping away the aura of the Beatles at the dawn of the '70s, the latter album -- and its companion interviews (most famously in Newsweek, Playboy and Rolling Stone) - offered candid reflections of a middle-aged couple that "survived the '70s" and was optimistic about growing old together and raising their "beautiful boy." Needless to say, that never happened, as John was gunned down later that same day outside his apartment. These are the songs John worked on in that apartment during his years out of the public eye and without a record contract. These are the songs that captured him between the post-therapy, ex-Beatle Rolling Stone interviewed in 1970 and the house-husband eager for a star comeback.
As 1977 turned to '78 Lennon was secretly working on "The Ballad of John and Yoko", a planned Broadway musical about his life and wife. He wrote program notes (posthumously published in "Skywriting By Word of Mouth" - notable for his blunt recounting of his life with Yoko and his priories at that point, "I've already 'lost' one family to produce what? "Sgt Pepper"? I am blessed with a second chance. Being a Beatle almost cost me my life, and certainly cost me a great deal of my health... I will not make the same mistake twice..."). He also wrote new music for "The Ballad of John and Yoko": three of the songs for the tentative musical have since been released with posthumous production added ("Real Love", "Free as a Bird" and Yoko's "Every Man Has a Woman Who Loves Him"). Three others circulate only in bootleg forms: "She's a Friend a Dorothy" (0:00), "Whatever Happened To..." (3:56) and "Mirror Mirror On the Wall" (8:25).

Friend of Dorothy
In gay slang, a "friend of Dorothy" (occasionally abbreviated FOD) is a term for a gay man. The phrase dates back to at least World War II, when homosexual acts were illegal in the United States. Stating that, or asking if, someone was a "friend of Dorothy" was a euphemism used for discussing sexual orientation without others knowing its meaning. A similar term "friend of Mrs. King" (i.e. Queen) was used in England, mostly in the first half of the 20th century.
Origins
The precise origin of the term is derived from Road To Oz, a sequel to the original Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The book introduces readers to Polychrome who, upon meeting Dorothy's traveling companions, exclaims "You have some queer friends, Dorothy" and she replies "The queerness doesn't matter, so long as they're friends." More commonly it is stated that "friend of Dorothy" refers to the film The Wizard of Oz because Judy Garland, who starred as the main character Dorothy, is a gay icon. In the film, Dorothy is accepting of those who are different. For example, the "gentle lion" living a lie, "I'm afraid there's no denyin', I'm just a dandy lion."

John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (born John Winston Lennon; 9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980) was an English singer and songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as a co-founder of the band the Beatles, the most commercially successful band in the history of popular music. With fellow member Paul McCartney, he formed a celebrated songwriting partnership.
Born and raised in Liverpool, Lennon became involved in the skiffle craze as a teenager; his first band, the Quarrymen, evolved into the Beatles in 1960. When the group disbanded in 1970, Lennon embarked on a solo career that produced the critically acclaimed albums John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, and iconic songs such as "Give Peace a Chance", "Working Class Hero", and "Imagine". After his marriage to Yoko Ono in 1969, he changed his name to John Ono Lennon. Lennon disengaged himself from the music business in 1975 to raise his infant son Sean, but re-emerged with Ono in 1980 with the new album Double Fantasy. He was murdered three weeks after its release.

R.E.D. (Ne-Yo album)
R.E.D. (an acronym for Realizing Every Dream), is the fifth studio album by American recording artist Ne-Yo, first released on November 6, 2012. The album follows the disappointing commercial performance to 2010's Libra Scale and is Ne-Yo's first album with new label Motown Records after being appointed as the label's senior vice president for A&R. The album contains songs that crossover different genres of music, combining elements of R&B, pop and dance-pop.
On R.E.D., Ne-Yo has re-united with frequent partners StarGate as well as new collaborators such as Harmony Samuels, No I.D. and The Underdogs. Early previews of the album indicate a progression in the singer's sound with a deeper lyrical content. Preceding the album's release are two lead singles, the R&B-tinged "Lazy Love" which reached the upper half of the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and the Sia-penned synth/Europop club song "Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself)". Upon its release, R.E.D. has received generally favorable reviews from most music critics.

On December 8, 1970 John Lennon was interviewed by Rolling Stone magazine (Jann Wenner) in support of his new album, "Plastic Ono Band" (released December 11th). Full of bold, "Beatle myth"-busting statements about their image ("The Beatles' tours were like Fellini's Satyricon"), their fans ("I resent performing for fucking idiots"), and their accomplishments ("I don't care about the whole conept of 'Pepper'") - as well as candid comments on drugs, Yoko and the cultural changes of the past decade, it's perhaps the most famous interview in rock history.
Exactly one decade later -- December 8, 1980 - John and Yoko were photgraphed in their apartment by Annie Leibovitz for Rolling Stone's feauture on their recently released album, "Double Fantasy". Just as the former LP -- and its companion interviews - saw John's stripping away the aura of the Beatles at the dawn of the '70s, the latter album -- and its companion interviews (most famously in Newsweek, Playboy and Rolling Stone) - offered candid reflections of a middle-aged couple that "survived the '70s" and was optimistic about growing old together and raising their "beautiful boy." Needless to say, that never happened, as John was gunned down later that same day outside his apartment. These are the songs John worked on in that apartment during his years out of the public eye and without a record contract. These are the songs that captured him between the post-therapy, ex-Beatle Rolling Stone interviewed in 1970 and the house-husband eager for a star comeback.
As 1977 turned to '78 Lennon was secretly working on "The Ballad of John and Yoko", a planned Broadway musical about his life and wife. As always, I preserved as much as possible of my original copy due to its much higher a/v quality. But what a treat to have the original commercials in any watchable video quality-- especially for such a special show, Dorothy Kilgallen's final appearance on WML before her sudden, untimely death. I usually discourage discussion of any controversial topics in the comments, but I'm fairly resigned that people are going to be discussing the nature of Dorothy's death now. I can only ask that people please be *respectful* of each other's opinions, because the reality is that *no one* really knows what happened to end Dorothy's life. It's always irksome when I see people commenting about it...

And all the animals can talk! From there the adventure really begins to get strange but in the end all is well when Ozma rescues them but I won't tell you how. Whew! what an exciting book! I usually discourage discussion of any controversial topics in the comments, but I'm fairly resigned that people are going to be discussing the nature of Dorothy's death now. I can only ask that people please be *respectful* of each other's opinions, because the reality is that *no one* really knows what happened to end Dorothy's life. It's always irksome when I see people commenting about it as if they know the full story while others simply refuse to accept the "truth".
If I had my choice, I'd honestly prefer that this topic wasn't dwelt upon, but seeing as it comes up regularly in videos where it's apropos of nothing, it would be silly to expect folks not to discuss Dorothy's death now. I'd much rather, however, see people talk about what a rich *life* Dorothy had, what an impressive woman she was, and how much she will be missed in future episodes. It deeply saddens me that Googling "Dorothy Kilgallen" turns up virtually nothing but pages upon pages of articles focusing entirely on her death. She deserves a lot better than that.

This biography of Dorothy Dandridge follows her career through early days on the club circuit with her sister to her turn in movies, including becoming the first black actress to win a Best Actress Nomination in 1954 for "Carmen Jones", to her final demise to prescription drugs, which was debated whether it was suicide or accidental. Brent Spiner plays her faithful manager who stood beside her through all of the roller coaster of her career. The film also examines her love affair with director Otto Preminger, which is shown to have probably initially helped her career, but later probably led her to some wrong decisions. The film also examines 50's racism as the black star is not permitted to use white bathrooms or the Vegas pool. In the first situation, she was given a bathroom cup to pee in. In the second situation, the hotel drained the pool and scrubbed it after she dared put her foot in the water.
